The Year 2024 in Review
The year 2024 for Expertise for Animals was marked by further development of our content and growing visibility. Our activity report shows how we supported animal advocacy movements through scientifically grounded work while also strengthening our organization.
We supported numerous organizations and initiatives with our expertise – both through pro bono work and commissioned analyses.
With our resource library, we created a central source of information in 2024. It provides bundled access to white papers, statements, and other publications.
A special highlight: our background article on turkey farming, which comprehensively exposes industry shortcomings and brings attention to an animal species that has so far received little focus.
We made new research findings visible – such as the discovery that chickens can blush, an emotional expression previously attributed only to humans.
We also critically followed developments in animal welfare policy, such as the planned but ultimately failed amendment to the Animal Welfare Act.
Our expertise in analyzing photo and video material was applied several times in 2024 – from footage of fattening facilities to investigations into octopuses. This helps organizations present animal welfare issues clearly and with evidence.
Our social media channels grew significantly – with over 1,400 followers on Instagram and 425 on LinkedIn. Particularly successful was our joint series with We Animals, which made expert perspectives on imagery from animal farming accessible to a wide audience.
We also took part in numerous events, including the quarterly meetings of the Federal Animal Welfare Commissioner, the German Animal Welfare Federation’s Animal Welfare Breakfast, and the CARE Conference in Warsaw, where we won second place in the Elevator Pitch Contest.
The 2024 activity report demonstrates how Expertise for Animals strengthens animal advocacy through sound analysis, consulting, and public outreach, thereby shaping social change. We thank all our supporters for their trust and solidarity.
